After playing together for 5 years, OpenTAB are finally dropping their debut single WYA on the 28th of July 2023. Set to be featured as one of the soundtracks of the upcoming Shudder horror movie Elevator Game, WYA discusses the feelings of desertion and abandonment in a heart-hitting melodic flow. OpenTAB sets WYA‘s mood right from its intro, opening with some warm soft arpeggios that promise a fluid emotional tune to come. WYA has a smooth flow with a beautiful soothing vocal melody that makes you want to listen to more, alongside a subtle groovy bass and drums that set the song’s floating pace. OpenTAB created a dynamic entertaining structure with an overall dreamy layer with a bright open sound, the fuzzy guitar tone at the solos was a cool choice as it helped shake the song’s fluidity, adding a slightly rough texture that refreshed the listeners’ attention.
WYA is a solid debut by OpenTAB, it slowly eases us into their world and gives us a close look at their writing and I loved it. It shows their melodic sense, and most importantly their detailed clever writing as they produced a solid piece with deeply emotional layers that’ll resonate with their listeners, without overdoing or compromising.
