Kansas City musical duo The Splatter Pattern is kicking the proverbial music door and entering the scene with a big splash with their latest album “While We Were Making Plans”…an art rock musical and lyrical experience that sounds nothing like anything else…a music album that stands on its own musical mojo and charisma.

The album presents a genre bending experience filled with 70s psychedelic trips, heavy rock riffing and progressive rock directions…with 9 songs, they explore many uncharted musical territories, all of which sounds new and charismatic…it can only come out of the amazing musical duo, The Splatter Pattern.

“While We Were Making Plans” starts with a big splash with its first song “The Wheel”…a perfect introduction to the trips that we’ll be taking and the journey we’ll be embarking on during the rest of the album…

“The Wheel” has all the elements that we just talked about…it’s a melting pot of many rock directions puts together and balancing perfectly with so much heart put in its making.

“The Space Between The Seconds”, is the second track and it takes its foot off the gas pedal for a bit…it’s less intense…more relaxed…has a very interesting mix of rock, acoustic guitar, piano…with several progressive psychedelic transitions that sound very fresh and unique.

“Giants” is a very unique song overall…the beats, the melodies, the guitar lick…the actual music composition…a very unique experience…

“The Corner Of My Eye” is a very funky 70s bossa experience that sounds both groovy and filled with mojo, a very melodic song…they just don’t make them like that anymore…i’m in love.

…we now hit midway on the album…it’s time for some heavy riffing…enter “Siblings”…unique riffs, drum beats, fill-ins, vocal melodies…the composition itself is mind-blowing…

“The Sink” starts with a very technical musical intro…then jumps into a very melodic funk track…the bass lines and organ licks steal the show…the funk is so strong with this one.

The next track has a very unique name…and a very aptly unique intro…it’s “Higgs Boson”.

With a heavy synth intro…that reminded me of the synth sounds of the Ensoniq…maybe it is, maybe it isn’t…but the synth is amazing to experience…with some great lead guitar works here and more of a minimal directions with the vocals…this song changes things up very much.

“Forward and Back” starts with a very unique pattern for almost all the involved instruments…everything is playing poly rhythmically to each other…the vocals, drums, bass, guitars…everything has its own temporal place in the song…and that is apparently not enough, because they change up the rhythm in the middle, then returns to the original one…it’s a mind-scratcher that sounds extremely solid, with an oriental sounding lead guitar solo…The Splatter Pattern are mixing it up with each track…

…we’re at the end of this absolutely thrilling musical journey with “Please Go Away”…but we don’g want to go away, we want more of The Splatter Pattern‘s musical stories…

The ending track is once again a very different experience from all that came before…with focus on a more indie/acoustic direction and 70s raw emotional energy, this is a perfect heartfelt ending to an amazing album.

Experiencing The Splatter Pattern‘s album “While We Were Making Plans” has been one of the utmost pleasures we had…we wish you guys all the best in life, you’re absolute geniuses and we can’t get enough of your amazing music.

We’ll be on the lookout for new releases…and make more music, please.

Cheers!
