Roll down your windows, let the sea breeze fill your car, and push play on “Wanderlust Highway”, the latest bluesy alternative-rock smash hit by Josh Jensen.
The Seattle-based singer/songwriter collaborated once again with producer Luke Rain, who recorded the track in his studio, and together, they borrowed sassy sax tunes from Alex Capron. The saxophone melodies send you to another realm, where romantic endeavors fill your mind with longing.
The single explores soulful elements, with a folk-blues kick, and it came a long way from the days that Jensen spent in his basement during quarantine in 2020, which birthed his second album Moon Time, mixed and mastered by Rain.
Jensen sings about tossing love in the backseat and reminiscing over lost intimacy in a heartfelt manner that draws you in further with each verse. You can hear his vocals effortlessly flip from chest to falsetto, complimented by the electric guitar strikes that create the perfect atmosphere for a road trip.
“As I was putting the instrumental parts together,” shared Jensen. “I really felt that the song could use a cool jazz organ to give it a bluesier vibe. The short keyboard interlude that you hear was a total accident I played while attempting to solo over the guitar part.”
Having grown up listening to Hank Williams, Patsy Kline, and Charley Pride, Jensen was influenced by music from a young age, and he ended up forming bands with his family members. His first step in music came in 2000, when he entered the field of professional recording with producer Gary Mula at the iconic Seattle studio, The Dutchman.
Safe to say, throughout his career, Jensen was multi-talented and explored many different genres that led him to eventually have the guitar as his main instrument, with lyrical brilliance by his side. Brimming with catchy riffs and earnest lyricism, “Wanderlust Highway” should definitely be on your playlist once you hit the road – preferably, the highway.
