Canada based band Star Persona just released a new single titled “Vanilla”…a very unique love story between man and machine…let’s dive deep and get to the bottom of this journey and see what’s the meaning behind this song.
“Vanilla” was inspired by the true events of Edward Smith…and the fact that he is attracted to cars, that started when he was in his teens…and he got to be with almost 1000 cars…having relationship with…but after all of his romantic mechaphile adventures, he decided to settle down with a VW Beetle.
First time I heard the song I thought to myself “wow, unique and fresh concept” but then I realized that they didn’t have hidden meaning behind the lyrics…it’s a real life story…I was a bit startled!
But let me tell you about what I got from the lyrics when I first heard it…I got it that there might be a man, who had many romantic experiences, but then at the end he wanted to settle…to settle down with the one…and maybe the one is not the most beautiful, the most exotic…but in reality the most reliable, the sweetest, the most humble…but in the end, it was a real story that happened. Shocking!
The story is unique, shocking and unheard of…or maybe that’s just me.
Star Pesona were inspired by this story and it made them write “Vanilla”…after the name of the VW that Edward settled with.
Start Persona delivers a very high quality musical experience with their rock direction…”Vanilla” is all about the best of the best…meaning, it takes the best of the 90s and takes the best of the current sonic realm too.
“Vanilla” is a 90s rock experience, very melodic, very huge sounding…and very charismatic.
The guitars are awesome…melodically, riffing, licks…everything sounds very catchy and sounds very tight too…very very tight.
The drums are one of the beasts in this song too…acting as the locomotion and driving engine…of course along with the melodic and groovy bass lines.
Vocals are stunning, taking you back in time to when the songs really had memorable and catchy vocal performances and melodies.
…and let me take this opportunity and introduce the brain and heart behind Star Persona, Claude Malette.
Claude is the main songwriter, he writes guitars, bass, lyrics, melody and friends help out with their area of expertise, like drums, vocals and solos.
“Vanilla” was recorded by Steve Foley at the Ottawa Valley Recording Studios.
The song also got released alongside a music video. It’s a simple and straightforward one…definitely elevates the experience of the song and adds a visual side to the whole journey, I would recommend viewing the music video for the first time for full enjoyment.
“Vanilla” sounds absolutely stunning and is a highly recommended experience to all rock lovers and all lovers of good music…and unique stories.
Cheers!
