US-based prog metal quartet Black Note Graffiti have just released their new single titled ‘The Source’, and it is a total banger. The song has a fine mix between old and newer more modern styles of metal, all fused with soaring female vocals that will surely give you shivers once you hear them.
The song begins with a stompy riff that will instantly remind you of early 2000s Alt metal and Nu metal bands like Godsmack. The moment the vocals enter though, you know these guys (and gal) are a game changer. Where you’d usually find grunting and screaming they give you a passionate, airy, reverbed female voice that ambiently soars above the punchy guitars and the thwarting basslines. The drums are strongly present, and the song’s rhythm seamlessly changes from the verse to the chorus, with the vocals sounding even higher than they did during the verse.
There is no dull moment with this track, and the production of the song makes such elements possible to blend with one another while sounding fresh and modern. The song doesn’t compromise heaviness or passion or any of the elements it should have, and because of its unpredictability, you’ll find yourself repeating it to hear the beautiful vocal lines soar over those guitars over and over again. The song was produced by Josh Schroder (Lorna Shore, King 810, Butcher Babies), and he did an amazing job of mixing the elements that make up Black Note Graffiti’s sound as terrific and as clear you would want this special and unorthodox combo of prog, alternative, and nu metal. I highly recommend this track to all metalheads.
