The Long Dark Road is a Canadian band who enjoys mixing many styles within their music. The band debut self-titled album will be released on April the 8th. The band founder Jeremy Cavan was inspired to name the band after Deafheaven’s Sunbather. He also has written and performed across the world with bands like Jerrycan, Sinister Trailerpark Magic and (U) the band.

Well, I also, had many mixed feelings while listening to this album; let’s find out.

The album includes four tracks with a huge diversity of music genres like blackened punk, black metal, hardcore and alternative rock. Frankly, I saw the first two tracks “Tragedy of The Commons” and “I Will Follow” kind of similar to each other as both gave the same feeling of the music mood that I went through. But what I really noticed is the musicians’ professionality of recording these songs especially when they require different beats and riffs variations that shows very tight musicians.

Ohhh, how I’m in love with “The State of Our Union”. The song is absolutely well-made. Nice catchy riffs. Tight vocals. And lovely golden era raw sound of metal! And it’s a very smart move to make it have like a bass-outro. Frankly, this wasn’t expected. This is nice, guys.

And here comes the final track in which I see it more psychedelic. They have added a new element to their style as it’s very obvious that it’s not similar to the other tracks of the album. What I really like about this song is the vocal line ability between the difference of the song verses. The song started to be more interesting to me in the 4th minute till the end as the music were more melodic.

At the end, I didn’t like the too many changes in the sound, especially when the songs of the album are very long as the shortest one is 6:56 minutes. So, I wish if they consider that in their upcoming releases because I see high potential in them and I believe they will be a hell of festivals headliners someday!

Also, I’d like to mention that the four members delivered a great raw sound of music, as it’s not digitalized like what we see these days. The Long Dark Road band members are Jeremy Cavan (guitars and vocals), Rufus Cavan (Bass), Toby Cavan (Drums), and Vanin Feral (Guitar). The album production technical assistance by Tavis Baird of Jerrycan Studios and has been mixed by Jeremy and Toby Cavan and for mastering, was by Phil Demetro at Laquer Channel.

Finally, I would rate these guys if you are seeking a raw sound to listen definitely don’t miss listening to The Long Dark Road. I’d rate this album 7 out of 10.
