Alwyn Morrison’s danceable and elegant ode to New York City is an apt display of an individual’s complex, love-hate relationship with a mega city that will inevitably break you, But you choose to stay put regardless, because in a city like New York, the endless opportunities and the streets that never sleep will often grow into obsessions.

Based in -yes, you guessed it- New York, Alwyn Morrison is a multimedia musical veteran. Currently a singer and songwriter, Alwyn Morrison is a frequent collaborator on works by industry legends such as Michael Carey and Michael Kooman as well as having been a musical journalist at the start of his career, interviewing figures such as Grammy-winning Esperanza Spalding and producer Jack Antonoff.

‘The City’ is a pop rock anthem with a danceable groove and an uber tight guitar performance that’s rhythmically crisp and tonally colorful. The multiple melodies on ‘The City’ showcase the songwriting talent that Morrison possesses, along with the song’s gentle pacing and punchy production, all coming together to make an easy going-yet-exciting piece of stirring pop rock. A touching ode with a startling, stunning guitar solo that makes it pop even more.

A welcome new addition to the growing catalog of Alwyn Morrison, ‘The City’ is a song about a complex love, yet there is nothing complex about it. A song that’s easy to love, fun, and rich with character.
