Groovy acoustic rock takes a majestic guise on Trash Tones’ latest cut titled ‘Taking Time’. This multicultural act brings an organic sound with its fair share of prog and post-rock that will surely find its way straight to lovers of the genre.
Based in the French Alps, the town of Morzine, Trash Tones are a four-piece outfit composed of Alex and Richie on the guitar and the bass, both British, accompanied by CJ’s lead guitar and VK on the drums with VK being the band’s only French member. CJ is from Sweden.
Together, the band just finished their tour of the UK where they played 8 concerts up and down the country. The group has been playing together for 4 years, and the musicianship they honed is effortlessly displayed in the intricate and artful groove they are pulling off in ‘Taking Time’. The song comes with a warm-sounding, bustling acoustic guitar part, ferociously strumming the song’s melancholic progression behind Alex’s effervescent vocals, sounding vulnerable and relatable.
The rest of the ensemble are working like clockwork behind Alex, establishing a hypnotic, swung groove. The drums are tightly played, sounding roomy and with a plenty of punch backing the swung snare hits, while the bass line snakes around with a melodic ajd nuanced part. The short solo from CJ is fiery and flamboyant, while showing restraint. Exactly what the song needs, without an ounce of filler.
‘Taking Time’ is a warm and emotive song, solidly played and beautifully mixed. A band that showcases incredible maturity in their approach to layering and building their songs. An immediate winner.
