John Vento speaks to those who feel alone in the great vast city on the tender tones of “Sweet Cheslie”. The arrangement has an intimacy to it. Raw grit and soul are poured into the entirety of the piece. Instrumentally vibrant the way that the interplay of the group adds to its warm, communal presence. Much of the work feels absolutely stunning for there is this righteousness that has a fevered pitch about it. His voice rests right in the very heart of the matter. Deep-laden but infused with a compassion, his vocals have their own lived-in presence to them. Rhythms here perfectly buttress the sheer determination of his word choice as it all gets wrapped up in this gorgeous, soothing fashion, with everything in its right place.
Things have a hushed whisper in the very beginning of the work. From there though he allows for an ever-growing sense of purpose to drive the song forward. Backup vocalists further sell the idea that nobody is ever truly alone, even when it seems that way. Moody guitar licks further sell the idea of exploration of trying to figure out one’s inner motivations. For the final stretch it all unfurls at its own distinctive pace one that is doubly refreshing to behold.
“Sweet Cheslie” shows off John Vento’s patient, persistent ethos for he makes sure that each and every verse is given its right amount of energy.
