After the success of his recent release, ‘Marie,’ The Gleeman strikes again with another hit ‘Somebody,’ as the second single from his upcoming debut full-length, ‘Something To Say’ which is set to be released next year.
Usually, I lean more into songs that have a story. While watching the music video, I liked how its filming elements helped the music so much to deliver the idea. A smooth 3:58 minute track, that I doubt you won’t put it on repeat mode. “Somebody forms part of a collection of songs which come under the banner of ‘The Ballad Of Aaron & Amy’ that feature the same protagonists and weave a single narrative across them,” says The Gleeman. The groove here is very catchy and easy to sing along with the track. I believe that The Gleeman’s voice is one of the best that I have heard this year so far. I love how the track is like a mixture of various characteristics and delivers its own style. The harmony here is very tight, which is something I hardly find these days in new music. According to the press info; The storytelling credentials of rising artist The Gleeman are enriched by the accompanying video made by BAFTA winning and EMMY nominated TV & Feature Film Director, Martin Gooch, whom amplifies the song’s narrative. The video features ‘Harry Potter’, ‘The Royals’ and impending Sky Original film ‘Arthur’s Whisky’ actress Genevieve Gaunt and former ‘Neighbours’ actress Emily Milburn.
According to the press release, the song tells a story about losing someone; “After losing the love of his life 10 years prior, Aaron is conflicted and torn. On one hand he continues to feel lonely and desires to share his life with ‘Somebody’. On the other he is trepidatious that he will be betraying his former partner if he moves on. In his desperation for a resolve, he beseeches through the ether for a sign from her that it’s OK.” which is fascinating and touching for all of us indeed.
In fact, Somebody made me curious to check his previous single, Marie. And WOW! Impressive indeed. Definitely, The Gleeman has been added to my library and I cannot wait to listen to his album.
