Perhaps Wasson!? could start a new thing that we would call Cornish Punk. Because of a syrupy sweet sound, a production job that stands out, and a sound that is steeped in punk, but also somehow transcends it, we have failed to place ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ within the confines of any genres.

Based in the town of Bude, Cornwall, England. Wasson!? is a five-piece band whose realm is unquestionably that of punk and its subsidiaries. With a guitar-intensive sound, the group is excellent at starting a racket that is forefronted by frontman Ryan Leverton’s hearty yells. They are also excellent in crafting melodies. On ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ we find a wealth of melodies that are delivered in the rawest of ways. Clangy, overdriven guitars, and untethered, unprocessed vocals, all ensure that the experience that we have on ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ is one that is dynamic, lively, and incredibly real.

Fantastically arranged, albeit deceptively so, the guitar parts in the song are intricate and nuanced, while at first glance they sound purposefully aggressive and brash, and it is consensus that the best punk is the punk that seems hooligan-ish at first glance but grows more intimate and lovable the further you dig in, taking the lines apart, and focusing on each one on its own. ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ is a lovingly-crafted piece of music from an outfit that is totally in touch with their sound.
