Blue Shirt Charlie start the year 2023 with their debut single, a catchy Alt-country song “Shelter” set to be released on the 20th of January.

Blue Shirt Charlie is an alt-country band, formed in 2022 by Richie Sessions, Russ Chapman, and Lex Lipsitz from Nashville, United States, the birthplace of country and Americana music. Their main purpose is to honour the true spirit of country while mixing it with groovy upbeat rhythms and singing socially aware lyrics.

“Shelter” talks about the tragedies that occur all around us, while reminding us that there is a safe place that everyone goes to with the main question being “When life implodes, what gets you through the day–what’s your shelter?”. Although the song’s theme is heavy, they manage to lighten it with jingly and uplifting lyrics and the vocalist’s deep, flawless, and charismatic voice singing in an uplifting tone. The song starts off with a catchy guitar riff and an upbeat drum and bass groove that gives it an Americana feel. With the verses taking a standard country approach with acoustic guitar strums, picking electric guitars, and an upbeat country drum groove. While the chorus takes more of an Alternative approach achieved by a half-time drum beat with a melodic echoed guitar lead line. In its progression, the song seamlessly switches between southern rock, country and alternative, appealing to a wide variety of people.
