Runes of Destiny is the latest single by Portuguese Viking Metal band ThunderSisters, and although that term is sometimes overused and given to some bands only for their lyrics, these girls have got the right style and atmosphere to earn it. The band is set to release their debut album titled ‘Valkyrie’s Call’ early next year, and this new single shows us that we are in for a treat.

First of all, Runes of Destiny is a relatively short song clocking in at just over three minutes, and that’s one of the aspects that throws you right into the melodic metal action and thunderous riffs. The way the song starts out with the main riff guided by the amazing keyboard work composed by band Founder Dy Moob. It’s not long before we hear the phenomenal and theatrical vocals of lead vocalist Pri Thunder, which instantly reminded me of Cellar Darling vocalist Anna Murphy – thanks to both ladies having a similar timbre and tone. Although you can hear a lot of inspiration from other vocalists, Pri’s voice stands out due to its clean tone and clarity and being sung with little to no distortion.

Between the epic and larger-than-life verses and the catchy chorus we find some drum transitions, breaks, and paradiddles all of which were tailored with care and attention to detail. Last but not least, the guitars sound super melodic yet also so violent and aggressive…a fine balance to withhold when your song is full keyboards and clean vocals, but ThunderSisters did an amazing job with the composition and the production sounds so modern and polished.

In conclusion, these Viking Metal warriors don’t joke or mess around. The Symphonic, Melodic, Power, and Viking Metal elements are all so present and powerful throughout the song, but the Viking title is what this song deserves to be labeled with due to the ferocity of the vocals and the amazing keyboard atmosphere.
