Since his 2017 debut, Rhett Repko has found himself cultivating a loyal fanbase as an independent artist. In 2024, he continues to shine, most recently with the Mark Needham produced ‘How Cold’. Repko’s punk-infused sound has earned five Top 100 college radio hits and support from over 200 stations. His music has also been featured on the likes of MTV, Netflix and TLC
Rhett’s new single dives into a romantic morbid curiosity, almost tempting a situation to break your heart. Rhett explains, “With ‘How Cold’, I was talking about that kind of girl that’s super cold to everyone and you know if you get close to her then she’s going to break your heart. You’ve heard the stories, you’ve seen the social media posts, but you don’t care – you’re too enticed and you want to give it a chance.”
The artist delivers this with pumping drum lines, filled with presence and power, balances of guitar layers that go from vulnerable and plucky to raw, unfiltered and distortion-drenched. The vocals are by far the main attraction, showcasing Rhett’s ability to create otherworldly harmonies and soar above the fiery foundations.
While the lead line flows through the story with a self-assured push for the unknown, the other layers build up the background optimism that maybe our protagonist is the exception. On the surface, it’s a raw alternative anthem, dive a little deeper, it’s a great piece of songwriting narrative.
