“Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.” – Sergei Rachmaninov. I didn’t find other words to start my review while checking Penny Lane by Jeff Lake and Cellophane Flowers which is available on physical CDs through the Cellophane Flowers website and online on all streaming platforms.

The album delivered a new treatment for The Beatles’ music replacing the vintage electric guitar with classical influences added by Cellophane Flowers (cello and violin) to become the core of the music, along with acoustic guitar riffs and smooth emotive vocals by Jeff Lake. Actually, the thirteen-track album combines stunning, emotive vocals, with all the best vintage melodic atmosphere with a charming acoustic chill which can be found in “Penny Lane”, and “Sugar Plum Lucy” but also there’s a unique psychedelic sound in “Within You Without You/ Tomorrow Never Knows.” Nowadays, the concept of tributes and cover, I can see bands are trying to cover every note one by one, but what I love about this record that Jeff Lake and Cellophane Flowers added their own classical character that suits such a modern age. Check it out below and let me know what you think!
