Venice-based duo Movie Club have just released their latest double single entitled “Requiem/Spinner”. Both tracks are fused together, to give the impression of being a single track but you can tell that each actually has a different and very distinct flavor to it.

The first two minutes show extensive use of effects on the guitars to make a very dissonant-sounding intro. Only root notes and incomplete parts of a progression are played, with some soft drumming on the high hats. I really loved how engaging and exciting that intro was.

After these two minutes have passed, the actual chord progression is introduced through a powerful bassline and a drum pattern highly reminiscent of beach rock and 2000s alternative rock.

The instrumentation takes a calmer approach during the section that feels like a verse, and the rhythm guitar sounds colorfully and beautifully melodic. The lead guitar signals the start of the chorus, where the drums and bass sound heavier and the chord progression begins to sound more intense. It’s a very gripping arrangement with no dull moments.

For those who wait, the same beautiful tone of the guitars and the same skillful playing will take you to a high-octane guitar solo that’s full of eargasmic moments.
