“Because you have sown, and now you shall reap.”, this is a statement – or more of a motto – that came out of the mouths of these fictional, yet amazing Heroes/Champions of the most played online RTS/RPG of all time, League Of Legends. And we are here to explore more about that fictional band and get to know the fictional and actual members of that amazing and unique band. This is going to be one hell of a ride folks!
Map of Valoran
Pentakill is a band that hails from a continent called “Valoran” that exists in the realm of “Runeterra”, a realm that was on the road of disaster due to political conflict and warfare between tribes that live and dwell in these mystical lands to settle its disputes with the use of magic that caused a huge and terrifying geographical changes in the landscape. And because of this, the grand magicians ordered to form “The League of Legends” to oversee and control the conflicts in the land and to resolve it as well. “The League of Legends” is housed in the “Institute Of War” in “Valoran”.
Pentakill in terminology means the act of scoring 5 kills, and the mystical members of that band – as mentioned before – are members of “The League of Legends” and they are considered the only band in “Valoran”. As promised we’ll get to know their names, history and what do they actually do in the band, so let’s get to it:
Karthus:
“Come whatever may, I’ll be the death of you.”
According to the tales of “Valoran”, it says that Karthus was not born, but reborn! The vocalist of the band that was murdered by the band’s Guitarist, Mordekaiser, before Karthus even joining the band! Freaking brutal dude…
Mordekaiser:
“MY RIG DOESN’T JUST HIT ELEVEN. IT ******* MELTS ELEVEN.”
The band’s guitar player, they say that he’s a prodigal guitarist just minutes after his birth. He holds an indestructible axe looking legendary guitar known only as “Numero Uno” that he spent years and years to track down and own to reflect his harsh and brutal guitar playing techniques.
Yorick:
“MORE BASS. TURN THE BASS UP. TURN THE ******* BASS UP. MORE. MORE.”
The band’s Bass player, he was known for torturing ghouls and ghosts with how he played his bass guitar that eventually they got used to it and actually started loving it, and got the nickname “Brown Note” due to his Brown-ish complexion.
Sona:
“…!”
This hot looking chick is no chick to mess with, she might have the looks and the hair but she’s one tough chick that when touring the lands she was killing ghouls and other creatures with their music. She withstands the harsh music so well that they offered her a spot in the band to play her keyboard.
Olaf:
“GET ME A NEW CHINA, TOMS, SNARE, DOUBLE PEDAL, AND COWBELL. YEAH, BSICALLY A NEW SET. OLD ONE BROKE. CAUGHT FIRE. YEAH I SET IT ON FIRE.”
The band continued touring and killing creatures by their music until they got to a place where there was only Olaf who was super drunk and challenged any of them to an arm wrestle. Yorick agreed and the wrestle went on for days that the vocalist got bored of it and gave him a spot to be the band’s drummer that he approved of.
And that’s how Pentakill came to be, such a story that I would think no other band went through, not even the Black Metal bands in Norway! Now the band has been formed and I would guess by now they want to have an album out, and they did – I wonder who their producer was and what recording labels they have in “Valoran”. They called it Smite and Ignite, which will be covered in another article that would review the album. The band had a statement when they released the album, which goes as follows:
The time has come. The era of metal has begun.
After devastating Runeterra with their ear-splitting riffs and ground-pounding rhythms, the metal monolith that is Pentakill has finally reached our shores.
But Pentakill’s not just in your ears, destroying your minds.
Either way, crank the volume up to 11 and get your metal hands ready, because it’s time to rock out!
Pentakill
Now back again to mother Earth and meet the actual members behind Pentakill, which after some serious internet digging found very little information about the actual band members, but here is what we know. According to the official League Of Legend Community page the following members are the guys behind the band:
1. Praeco (composer, guitars, mixing, programming and production)
2. Riot Kyugene (bass)
3. ProtoShredanoid (guitars)
Looks like they are going with their nicknames in the game, which didn’t clinch my thirst in knowing who they really are. After more digging I could only find who did the vocaling part of the album, and it was satisfying for me to find out that they are amazing and wellknown artists. They are:
Jørn Lande:
A Norwegian Heavy Metal singer who has sold over seven million records worldwide. He is known for being the former vocalist of bands Masterplan, Ark, Beyond Twilight, Millenium, Vagabond, and The Snakes, as well as for his successful solo career as Jorn. He was the one who added his vocals in the first track of Pentakill‘s Smite and Ignite album, ‘Lightbringer’.
ZP Theart:
A Heavy Metal vocalist, best known as the former singer of British Power Metal band, DragonForce. Theart was also hired by Riot Games for the voice of Karthus in the songs ‘Deathfire Grasp’ and ‘Last Whisper’.
Finally, I would only say that this amazing band is one of the greatest Metal bands I’ve came across, Even though they are fictional characters in one of the most important online games, but still they keep it Metal. So don’t hesitate to check out the band’s Official Page to read more about the band members and check out the lyrics of each track , and even download their full album for free!
Here is a sample of one of the tracks of their album, Smite and Ignite, ‘The Prophecy’:
