Today’s music scene suffers from a lack of creative, dreamy, and substantial work in pop music. The rarest thing to find (sadly) is a song that’s both catchy and well-written. LA-based singer-songwriter Linuss has broken that sad rule and proved that pop songs can be creative and amazing with his latest single “Passcode”.
The track has a bass line and a guitar line that reminded me of a lot of post-rock and modern rock bands and artists like Tame Impala, Joji, and Kaleo. Other than the song’s wonderful instrumentation, the lyrical concept is pretty personal but relatable at the same time.
I really loved the metaphor of the passcode being like the barrier that dropped between the song’s main character and his ex-lover…which represents how she invaded and violated him. The song perfectly represents co-dependency and the inability to live with that significant other…and for that alone, it deserves a multitude of awards.
In conclusion, this is a song I recommend to anyone who loves the bands or artists I mentioned above. I promise you will find a creative and well-written song with no dull moments and no preference for style over substance. Songs like these make me believe that pop music should not always be related to the connotation of being a lazy piece of music in a lazy or careless manner.
