Alt-rock band Motherland released their latest single, “Ocean Drive”. Motherland is a 5 piece alt-rock/indie band based in New Castle. Though stating they’re an alt-rock band, they cannot be bound by just one genre, as they tastefully combine a whole lot of different genres to create their tuneful songs.
At first, listen, I felt like this would be the perfect song to play on a road trip, with happy tunes and a summery-feel to the song. This is the type of song that would be played at the end of a movie where the seniors just had their last class and just finished for good, this song makes you excited and weirdly optimistic for the future! The guitars in the song are warm and harmonious, and remind me of that of 2000’s Letters to Cleo, with the song giving undertones of pop-punk from the early 2000s. Something I absolutely loved is the cover art, showing a photo of a palm tree, which is probably an ode to the summery feeling of the song, which the band described as “Summertime anthem”.
All in all, no wonder Motherland has more than 50,000 streams on Spotify alone! Its not every day you see a band that is able to mix genres so tastefully. This song was just 3 minutes and 21 seconds of rich and melodic music. The song also makes you feel something, as good art does to a person!
