Bad boyfriends and dramatic breakups have always been a recurring lyrical theme in pop-punk and pop-rock songs…and in the case of UK-based singer-songwriter Ezrae, she draws influence from Avril Lavigne and several other pop-punk artists, and it shows in her work. Today we’ll be reviewing the amazing new single “Nosebleed”.

The song follows the fun and sketchy (yet real life) story of one of her ex-boyfriends with whom she had a bad experience that led to a literal (and some point metaphorical) nosebleed…and it’s a very fun narrative to listen to.

The song begins with an electronic synth line that plays a lead melody, while electronic percussion adds a modern hip hop/RnB element…when more furious drums and some guitars join during the chorus you can taste the pop-punk very clearly. This song is what a collaboration between Machine Gun Kelly and Rita Ora would sound like. The former being due to the electronic pop-rock nuances…and the latter due to Ezrae’s vocal style and attitude.

The bridge/semi-solo section of the song was another pleasant surprise as well…as I thought the song will rely on an electronic bridge there. I’m pretty sure if Ezrae tours with a live band we will get to hear these guitar details on stage as well.

In conclusion, this song is a bombastic and powerful tune (even if its subject matter is sketchy and light-hearted) that manages to put the listener in a state of resentment and a strong dislike of that awful old boyfriend that Ezrae had…I recommend this song because of its sweet sound and fun “summer song” kind of vibe.
