A sound that blends Alice in Chains with Enigma, Vicky Fysika’s vocals is the Greek Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), sending chills down the spine of listeners with her versatile, cool timbre. C.O.D.E vocal prowess enables her to shift moods from an epic, combative song like “Sinner Art” where artists struggle in their complex relationship with their art, to “City Polluted” where the beautiful hometown of the band takes centre-stage. In “No Excuses”, Vicky voices all the band’s themes and thoughts, her fluid vocal range intertwining with the heavy-set guitars and the synthesizers. While everyone’s favorite seems to be “Begin”, “Stain” and “Prisoner” contain the band’s most inventive experimentation with sound and genre. The drumming style in “Stay Away” cannot be more perfect, as is the guitar intro, and when Vicky starts soaring like a melancholic bird deep in the winter forest, listeners get lost in the recesses of the C.O.D.E unique sound.
Some bands come and go, but Culture Of Digital Elegance (C.O.D.E) is here to stay. If anything, No Excuses has cemented that.
