I’m sure every single one of us has thought about this at least once or twice, if not more. What if life became perfect? What if we don’t have to fight for obvious rights? What if we are not obliged to work for a living? What if we can just spend our lives traveling the world, enjoying mojitos on the most glorious of beaches? What if we lived a perfect life? Inspired by the Japanese comic, Fullmetal Alchemist, Carpe Diem releases her latest single, Ne Plus Ultra, which translates to Perfect Point. This is a song of reflection and contemplation. There is no escape from your thoughts this time.

The inspiration behind this song is quite interesting, a Japanese manga series that has its synopsis built around the concept of Law of Exchange. What is the Law of Exchange? It mainly states that there isn’t a thing that can be created from nothingness. In order to create something, something else of value must be exchanged for that creation, and by effect, it is lost. It is as if a person is sacrificing something in order to gain something better, or just something else of more importance to him. One rarely gets everything that is desired. You can’t buy clothes without sacrificing money in exchange. You can’t have a relationship without putting in some time and effort, and you certainly can’t always have free time while also being a self-made billionaire (it would absolutely be nice though).

The point is, we really need to learn to accept the fact that we simply cannot have everything. We need to learn to accept and be content and grateful for what we have, because let’s face it, nobody actually likes everything or needs everything created on this earth, anyways. Everyone loves food, but everyone has a certain kind that isn’t really his treat, and we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the good without the existence of the bad. We need to learn to let go of this idea of “perfect,” just because it seems like an unnecessary illusion and life would probably be tasteless and boring if everything is just perfect.

Carpe Diem have delivered a well-crafted thought-provoking release. It makes the listener think and reflect about how he approaches life, and if there is a better way of doing it for the sake of a happier future? The music gives this delightful and cinematic kind of feeling which resonates with the message, however, the melody line could’ve been more effective with more movement as it sometimes feels like it isn’t really syncing and matching with the energy of the music. But hey! You know what? This could be the reason why this release might actually be perfect the way it is right now! Cause after all, imperfection could be perfection. Just because it is absolutely true, realistic, and real.
