kleio have built their reputation on anthemic tendencies. After the group started 2024 with two sold-out shows in Waterford and Dublin, they made their way to Manchester for their first show in England. They also recently supported Post-Party on their Irish tour, and have more shows set for October. With four singles under their belt, the band are going from strength to strength.

kleio‘s latest slice of anthemic heaven comes in the form of ‘mercury’, a single with a soaring lead guitar line and a fast-moving bass groove. Once again, kleio manages to bring the performative alt-rock energy, turning up the volume and pushing forth the tempo, whilst simultaneously placing themselves in a position of thoughtful reflection and emotive storytelling.

The ferocity across the instrumentals, from the cymbal heavy drumming to the layers of raw plucky guitar tones to the haven of a bass line that remains controlled amongst the chaos, is impactful and exciting. The vocals harbour a genuine sense of frustration, but there’s a love that clouds a complete overwhelm of grief. Another high-quality stadium filler from the Irish indie-rockers.

Frontman Luke explains, “Mercury was such a fun song to write, I wrote the lyrics on the back of receipts while I was working in a shop and I’d go home every day filled with ideas on how the song should go. It ended up coming together fairly quickly once I took it to Alex, which was a nice change. When we played it live for the first time I remember our friends, who’d been watching us for a while, being blown away by it, the song felt like we had taken a step up in our quality and I’m so excited for people to hear it.”
