Major throwback vibes ensue when you push play on “Keep Them Away”, the latest 90s Rock track by Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Eddie Cohn. The song is about keeping the negativity away and living your ultimate potential without worrying too much about the future.
“How much time do we waste worrying?” shared Cohn. “How often do we worry and not do something because we allow the worry to take over in our mind? I guess for me, I’m trying to worry less and live more openly, be more empathetic, and remain curious.”
The song was written, produced, and recorded by Cohn, while the electric guitars are by Brett Farkas, bass guitar by Sean Hurley, drums and percussion by Jake Reed, and mixed and mastered by Kevin Penner.
This is the fourth song that Cohn has put out in 2024, which shows incredible momentum. Being highly influenced by grunge era stars like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains, you can tell that the music is inspired by U2 sounds.
The rock element is evident in his style of singing, and the pumping drum beat that was popular back in the 90s. You can also hear effortless harmonies in the song that echoes in the back of your headphones, or fills the room from your speakers.
“… these songs are all about me going for a more rock n roll approach to songwriting. Bug drums and electric guitars with melodic and singable choruses. There’s certainly some synth and piano in the track, but I wanted the energy to be more straight ahead rock n roll. Less reliance on drum loops and synth and deeper use of live drums and acoustic guitars,” explained Cohn.
And straight rock’n’roll it is, indeed! Happy headbanging.
