My first time checking out a Barbadian band had me excited to find out what sorts of sound they would muster, and I was pleased to find out that the sound was rich, the tones were crisp, the lyrics were intelligent, and the atmospheres were inviting.

Divine Lie is a band based in Barbados and South Africa, a collective basically, formed in 2004, and led by the vision of Nigel Nicholls, who plays guitars and keyboards. Indelible Stain is our song today, it is also the title track of Divine Lie’s 10th studio record, a sizable milestone. An album that the band is very much proud of and excited for. Nicholls was joined in the vocal department by Grant Tuffs, who started out his career behind the drum set and then quickly grabbed the mic after having discovered his passion for writing and singing.

Our song today is a meaty rock cut, with as much to allude to classic rock sounds as to a more current and modern strains of rock. Indelible Stain is, for me, characterized by its brooding, mystical progression, and its lively and dynamic drums, both of which set quite a unique scene that is beautifully accentuated by the richness and warmth of the acoustic guitar, and the thick, healthy, and delicious overdriven tone of the electric, which plays chunky riffs that truly do the amazing tone justice. An accompanying video that shows a story of betrayal and revenge, nicely acted and professionally shot and produced, is a fitting story to pit against the dark and vindictive sounding progressions.

All I’m all, Divine Lie is a professional, time-hardened musical project whose sound is unique and confident. The vision of Nigel wonderfully coincides with the voice of Grant to give us a product of rich alternative rock that deserves a ton of admiration and support.
