‘I Have Been Waiting’ is a faithful representation of delta blues that will take you back to smoky bars in the American South sometime in the rowdy sixties.
Influenced by the music that spurred what we now consider rock music in all its tens of formats and subgenres, Carsten Schnell is a singer and songwriter who hails from Bonn, Germany, and for a German, Carsten pulls off this musical style with astonishing style and in great taste. ‘I Have Been Waiting’ is inspired and passionate. Basically a 12-bar blues in major, the song revolves around a guitar, a bass, an upright piano, and a drum kit… just like they used to do it.
On top of the inspired instrumental deliveries, we have Carsten Schnell’s vocals, which are incredibly true to what we expect from this type of music. With soulful yells that easily match CeeLo Gr een’s soaring highs, the singing on ‘I Have Been Waiting’ is just as charismatic as its music. Even the guitar solo is in true form. With a struggling, strained tone that channels early guitar amplifiers, and with natural amplifier feedback, and far thicker guitar strings, the solo sounds like a beautiful struggle between man and guitar.
‘I Have Been Waiting’ is fun and soulful, a piece of music that transcends time, inspired by a style that will live on and endlessly continue to influence newer generations of musicians. A piece of modern blues with all the vintage goodness there is.
