Canada-based pop duo Ginger Beef enchants the world with their new single “Hocus Pocus”…get ready to have a spell on you.
Ginger Beef is flutist Jiajia Li and multi-instrumentalist and producer Warren Tse.
Hitting the world along a music video too…”Hocus Pocus” takes a very cinematic approach…a very high-quality shot video, with an actual story and superb editing…
Before I get to talk about the music, I have to talk a bit about the video…this way it’s gonna be easier to imagine because it will be talking about it like a soundtrack!
So, first thing…the story…a lady is walking down the street with a green suitcase…and opposite to her is a tattooed man wearing a wedding dress and holding an umbrella…yes, you read correctly.
They both have an accident…they fall, the man leaves his umbrella and picks up the suitcase…to her surprise, the lady keeps looking for her suitcase, only to find the man with the dress running away…she chases him…
…along the music video, during the chase…there are scenes of a guitarist and a flutist…these two, are Ginger Beef.
The music video continues to follow this chase and ends up with both of the lady and man getting tired and resting on a bench…only for the chase to end in a very funny twist that I don’t want to ruin here…check out the music video for the surprise.
…so now that we got a good look at the music video…let’s talk about the music, which firstly, let’s get this out of the way, “Hocus Pocus” is the lead single from their self-titled debut album scheduled to release on October 27th…and this single is Ginger Beef’s take on the 1971 track from Dutch rock band Focus.
…getting this out of the way…the energy of the song is that of the story of the music video…it’s a chase, in the 70s, lots of funk, lots of shredding, lots of energy, lots of speed…a burst of groovy funk, with the unique addition of the flute, both western and eastern.
The flute shreds like there’s no tomorrow, there’s also guitar shredding here, don’t get me wrong…and both of the duo raises the bar and lights up the place…it’s amazing on both the visual and the sonic levels…the whole experience is a super groovy musical approach, it’s all instrumental and this is why I said that it’s like a soundtrack…
We wish all the best to the amazing duo, can’t wait for the album release on the 27th of this month. Keep amazing the world.
Cheers!
