This intoxicating piece of vintage-infused rock has a sound that is a blend of space rock with prog, glam, and pop rock, all woven into one rewarding and punchy song. ‘History’ features on Rye Catchers’ second full-length album, titled Mixed Messages.

A musical project based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rye Catchers is spearheaded by songwriter and producer David McClintick, supported by a wide array of exciting and talented features. On ‘History’, Rye Catchers features the terrific vocal talent of Nikki Simmons, and the hard-hitting bass grooves from Tim Lefebvre.

Delivering the essential 80s sound on the single we have a core composed of chord sequences that are undeniably dramatic. With a musical charisma and a sense of emotional immediacy, the song’s composition is lively and impactful, and the sense of dynamicism is only heightened by the exceptionally warm and deep groove laid down by Lefebvre. On top of it all we have the powerhouse vocal performance by Simmons. A frontwoman in the strictest sense of the word, Simmon’s delivery is balanced between genial accessibility and soaring yelps, often harmonizing one another, creating a sense of occasion. The vocals are approachable, but every now and then the occasion arises for a soulful belt that melts the microphone right off.

‘History’ is an exciting piece of rock music that carries a lot of immortal DNA from a multitude of musical eras and subgenres. In the end, we have an exciting and confident song that boasts a flamboyance that is rare in today’s landscape of independent rock.
