Hester Denney

The latest single from S J Denney is entitled “High Flying Birds” and it’s one of the most peaceful songs I’ve ever heard. Presumably, it was named after Liam Gallagher‘s band of the same name, although the style differs.

The song begins with an epic orchestration formed of angelic and bright strings. When the vocals join, you can hear the emotional delivery, the enunciation, and the nasality all bring you into a peaceful and soothing state of mind.

The percussion is soft and arranged in a manner that’s slightly similar to RnB or Soft Rock, which makes for a great juxtaposition with the classical orchestrations.

The piano takes on the role of the lead melody here, which was a great choice because it perfectly matches with Denney’s serene and divine vocal lines.

To top it all off, the song has a lengthy flute solo which acts as the equivalent of guitar solos in classic rock.

In the sense that it intervened at a climactic moment, Although it was lengthy it was fresh and did not in any sense overstay its welcome.

By the end of the song you will remember its highlight was the bright solo, but you will also keep replaying it to discover all the hidden details and background vocal harmonies that immerses you into the movie score-like atmosphere.
