A delicious amalgam of blues, rock, and funk, with a tribal and rhythmic undercurrent, Pork Pie’s latest single is an immediately infectious banger.
Based in the Irish town of Dundalk, Pork Pie are a four-piece rock outfit composed of Michael Stafford, a multi-instrumentalist bringing to the helm vocals, guitar, saxophone, and organs. Alongside him we have Peter Laverty’s rhythm guitar, Michael Laverty’s bass, and Shane Brett’s drums. Together, the foursome are capable of truly outstanding sketches of off-kilter rock, with ‘Helplessly Waiting’ being a prime example of what they are capable of.
The song is cacophonous, with a syncopated beat carrying the brunt of the song’s character, alongside the twisting earworm of a riff, and Stafford’s hooligan yells, singing about a dysfunctional relationship in an extremely lively performance. One more thing to mull over is the song’s fantastic production, bringing us a wholly taste meal of roomy drums, balanced reverbs, engulfing walls of organs and saxophones, and group vocals that brim with energy.
A downright infectious riff and an entrancing beat carry forward Pork Pie’s latest offering. ‘helplessly Waiting’ is a fascinating mix of musical ideas that culminate in a groove and a riff that grip hard and keep on gripping. Totally catchy.
