The future always presents both challenges and opportunities…
…both good and bad…
…but it’s always unknown whatever you do, however you do it.
People always have certain expectations in their future…if I do this, that will happen.
If I study that extra hour, I’ll be more successful…
If I relaxed today and took it off, nothing would happen…
The future, however, can not be expected or even prepared for really, you just do what you can trying to predict the next move in your career, your next gig, your next relationship…
…nothing is really guaranteed…
…and that ladies and gents is what Magdalia is telling us in her latest song “Great Expectations”.
Such a relatable and unique premise, talking about how the future is not guaranteed, however, when we were kids we were promised heaven on earth…but there is no heaven on earth, and we get to know that fact bit by bit as we grow older…not a nice fact, specially comparing it to our childhood dreams.
Magdalia is a singer/songwriter that hails from Melbourne, Australia.
She’d written “Great Expectations” during an online collaboration session with “The Artist Studio” during the 2021 lockdown.
“Great Expectations” is the brainchild of Magdalia’s many talents and gifts…Magdalia is an autistic gifted artist, where she tells us about her story about finding her true self in a world that promises unguaranteed futures.
The song has a bit of a noir-pop topic, which is something that I just made up specifically for “Great Expectations”…because the topic can get pretty dark, but the music has an uplifting and soothing mood to it…
…maybe that is exactly why the song works really well…
It discusses a pretty heavy topic, in a happy coating of dreamy music.
The song starts out with clicking sounds…as if marking the fact that we just got into this dreamy world, the inner minds of Magdalia, as she will take us through her feelings and experiences…
…without music entering yet…Magdalia starts her mesmerizing vocal performance
…music creeps in bit by bit…
…the first time “Great Expectations” is said is at the same time the music swells to a high point.
The sound choices and audio qualities of “Great Expectations” are all top-notch.
It sounds huge, yet cozy…the composition, structure and mixing makes that difficult formula come to life so we can connect to it on an emotional level.
Magdalia is definitely a force to be reckoned with, with a very bright future ahead of her…we are waiting for her next projects…
Magdalia, we wish you all the best in life, keep on making us feel…it makes us more human.
