All the way from Vancouver island, Canada, Liam Docherty graces us with his latest single “Gemini Rising”…derived from his studies of Greek Mythology, specifically the myth of the Gemini star constellation….he also releases his song along a music video that serves as both a lyrics video and an enjoyable trip along the road with the artist himself…with some epic sceneries.
Liam is an artist with strong blues DNA and it’s strong here with “Gemini Rising”…with a bit of country blues thrown in the mix…he had written and recorded this song when he was only 15…such an accomplishment…
“Gemini Rising” is a guitar-centric song…the role of the guitar is absolutely enormous…it’s melodic, it’s leading, it’s filling the air…it’s rhythmic…along with Liam’s comforting-David gilmour-like vocals, the guitar and the vocals shine through exceptionally.
The guitar solo is a moment to behold…and it is presented at the perfect timing. After all the build-up and storytelling, Liam hits us with an epic solo that is both masterful and unique…and filled with emotional and musical storytelling…which brings me to my next point…storytelling, across the whole song…it’s like watching a movie.
Liam is great at telling stories obviously and the way he delivers the story through his lyrical work and vocal delivery are just ear-catching…throw in the music video for “Gemini Rising” on youtube and you’re hooked.
Speaking of the story…Liam takes us on this mythical journey of twin brothers Castor and Pollux. Pollux was immortal, and Castor mortal. One day, Castor, during a fierce battle, was killed. Pollux could not bear to live through the grief. Distraught, he begged the Gods to grant Castor half of his eternal life. So the Gods, taking pity on Pollux, said the only way it was possible for the brothers to share immortality was if they placed them in the heavens, as a star constellation, and thus, the brothers live for eternity by each other’s side.
With all that though, passion and expertise put into “Gemini Rising”…we could only experience this song in awe…and hope to get more like this from Liam.
We can not wait to hear what Liam brings to the table next…we will be on the lookout.
