Netherlands-based musical project Thistle Sifter releases a post-rock surreal musical journey…not just for the ears, but for the eyes and for the soul too…” Forgotten Man” is one of the mountain peaks of post-rock ambientism…if that is even a word…that’s how good the music is, it made me create a new word just for it.
Based in the Dutch city of Utrecht, this instrumental project by English musician Pete Barnes is releasing his first single from his second album “Circles…which will be released on Friday 26th of January 2024…and not just digitally, but on vinyl too, for the audiophiles.
Pete crafts a musical journey that sounds, feels and looks absolutely stunning…
…starting from the looks…
The music video for “Forgotten Man” is a surreal black and white odyssey of movement, stillness, projected imagery and surreal shots that is an absolute perfect match with what happens on the sonic side…
…and the sonic side is where the magic happens…
Musically, “Forgotten Man” captures the essence of post-rock perfectly..huge ambient reverbs, sparkly guitars…huge waves of musical sound beds and a climactic finale to bring the whole experience home.
All of what we’ve experienced with “Forgotten Man” have culminated within ourselves to make us ‘feel’ something…we felt a story…and it’s not necessarily the same story you’ll experience when you jump into Pete’s magnum opus…
…and that is actually what I feel is the song’s most prominent and strongest edge…it makes you feel, it makes you visualize and it makes you create a story by experiencing the music and letting it go through your body.
I believe that the highest form of art is the one that makes you feel something boiling from within…and with this regard, Thistle Sifter’s “Forgotten Man” has achieved the accolade of a true art masterpiece.
Wishing all the best to Thistle Sifter, Pete, this is mind-blowing.
Can’t wait to experience the second album “Circles” when it comes out on the 26th of Jan 2024…we’re waiting.
Cheers!
