After a long hiatus, Industrial/goth rockers Melba Culp are back with a new single named Faces of The Forest, which sounds super goth and groovy. The song is based on the theme of environmental destruction and starts a new era for the band, as vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jack McConnell is on his own now.
The song is very reminiscent of Industrial rockers Deathstars and there are a few nods to Swedish melodeath outfit Avatar here and there too, but let me tell you what sets this track apart: the vocals. The vocals are on a more cleanish side and it’s very easy to decipher the lyrics and to listen to the high parts of the vocals accompanied by the guitars and additional melodies. Brilliant musical composition and powerful production come hand in hand to give us this amazing song that sounds so fresh and inspired – a task which seems impossible for other bands to do in 2024.
The basslines and drum lines keep the groove and keep the song thunderous and energizing as we move from the powerful and percussive verses to the more melodic chorus. All in all, you will love the changes in the vocals from the clean parts to the screams to the wonderful effects that McConnell uses and this song, although short, will keep you on the edge of your seat. I recommend this track if you’re a fan of any, or all, industrial and goth rock artists like Deathstars and Marilyn Manson, or if you just simply love modern rock and metal but want a band that sounds different and unique from all the mainstream rock songs.
