This latest release by The Heroic Enthusiasts, an A side/B side single titled ‘Wake Me When It’s Over’, is a triumphant display of the duo’s eccentric sound, rhythmic, curious, laden with electronica, experimental, and endlessly memorable.

A duo based in the city of Rochester, New York, The Heroic Enthusiasts is comprised of James Tabbi and Thomas Ferarra. A duo that was birthed out of a shared love for Britpop, new wave, and post-punk, The Heroic Enthusiasts now have a very defined sound that harkens back to maybe the sound of David Bowie’s 90s electronic experimentation. ‘Wake Me When It’s Over’ is a bold single with a pair of distinctive songs that both brim with character.

The titular track opens the single with a sonic barrage of rhythm and atmospheric elements, all highlighting the song’s tenacious, creeping riffs, edgy synths, and old-school, spy movie vibes. The song is beautifully produced by the talented Stephen Hague, who masterfully arranged the song’s countless layers, parts, and samples, into a cohesive tapestry of hard-hitting electronica with a lethal flair of experimentation and a Bond-esque style to pull through.

‘All I Want’ follows with a similarly bustling arrangement, full of frills and adornments that are also wonderfully put together by Hague. ‘All I Want’ excels over the titular track with a wonderfully defined chorus that delivers an entirely captivating melody on top of this song’s generally more streamlined rhythm, making it the far more accessible cut of the two songs on this single.

Released as the second single from the group’s upcoming album, set to release in early 2025, ‘Wake Me When It’s Over’ is an astonishing display of the duo’s musicianship, and their extremely fruitful working relationship with the legendary producer Stephen Hague, who undoubtedly has had an invaluable contribution to more than just the production on the double-side single. ‘Wake Me When It’s Over’, just like past releases from The Heroic Enthusiasts, has left us hungry for more from the duo.
