With hard-hitting lyrics, hard-hitting guitar riffs, and hard-hitting energy…Brian Berggoetz is an absolute force to be reckoned with…a metaphorical punch to your metaphorical soul that takes you to a completely different plane of energy.
Brian doesn’t only craft unique songs…but he also has a penchant to rewrite other songs…I can’t say it’s covers, because he changes the song into something completely different…and this is evident in his latest EP “Familiar Sounds”.
Brian just released “Familiar Sounds” with 5 songs…
The first one is a complete reimagining of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”…
It’s still called “Folsom Prison Blues”…but it’s a hard rock song now…even the vocal delivery is completely different, the song is heavy, complete with a lead guitar solo, ripping away. It’s almost a completely different song.
Going into the second song of the album “My Way Home”, Brian takes the tempo up and the energy up along with it…it’s a fast paced song with a very emotional and melodic vocal line…beautiful, with a country-infused guitar solo, it sounds very tight and complete.
“It’s Gonna Rain” is the third song in the album and it starts slow, with a strong country rock vibe to it, then it kicks it into high gear and jumps on the heavy riffing rock train…the drums are punchy, the beat is strong and heavy…the song jumps between the light and heavy to give you that much-needed contrast that makes you feel the hard-hitting parts even more.
…again, a great guitar solo comes as a very welcome bonus.
The fourth song is “Familiar Sounds” is an uptempo song with female backing vocals that sings in harmony…this time there are orchestral elements like a cello and a violin…and they add a very cinematic feel to the whole experience…the song is already an emotional song…and the sonic elements of the orchestra elevates the experience.
Coming to the fifth and last track of the EP, we find ourselves at “Pieces of Silver”…
The song starts out with a very emotional guitar with a heartfelt string section that is both full and emotional…Brian puts his heart in all of his songs, but this one feels different from Brian…
“Pieces of Silver” is an emotional song, with an emotional energy to it.
Brian is an excellent songwriter with a unique voice and a unique approach to composition and even a unique way of reimagining songs…his EP “Familiar Sounds” is a very enjoyable experience from start to end with a lot of diversity in the energy of each song of the 5 songs.
