Mixing their diverse influences, the rocking duo SuperWAV dropped their 2nd EP aTYPICAL on the 11th of October 2023. With an ocean separating them, the siblings Anne and Volker Wichmann managed to push forward and put together this solid EP that’ll satisfy all you heavy music lovers out there. SuperWAV kickstarted aTYPICAL with The Lover, a bluesy tune with heavy vibes, an irresistible groove, and a powerful vocal melody, cementing their heavy sound and rocking roots. Its haunting groovy riff and fluid unstoppable flow had a hooking effect that kept the listeners on board and waiting for more, an awesome opening choice. The Warrior comes next steering towards a calmer, more emotional direction while keeping SuperWAV‘s core sound intact. Its atmospheric guitar arpeggios build the song’s melancholic mood up, as the expressive vocals lead the way towards a bigger sound with a beautiful smooth progression that was cleverly written and executed. The Everyman hits next boosting the EP’s energy with attacking vocals and hard-hitting guitars, going hand in hand in a unified heavy stream of detailed riffs, melodies, and a powerful decisive vocal delivery creating a catchy dynamic structure with interesting heavy twists and turns. Offering a more melodic sound, The Innocent comes next showing another side of SuperWAV‘s writing. These guys have an amazing vocals/guitar chemistry that’s clearly shown in their harmonic flow, and the way both push the song’s dynamics forward without compromising the mood, crafting a well-arranged multi-layered structure that subtly delivers touching emotions that builds an unbreakable bond with the listeners. The Magician softly ends the EP with fluid melodies and a laidback structure, briefly taking the listeners on a brief mellow journey before peacefully signing out.
aTYPICAL is a solidly connected EP by SuperWAV, it shows their deep old-school rocking roots and unique character in the way they organically handled their influences creating something their very own, while the diversity in the EP’s dynamics made it an extremely enjoyable ride.
