Yep, these two have teamed up again after almost a year off! The Bay Area-based Everything But The Everything are back with their latest release, A&B Side VOL II ft. (the sensational voice) Sophia Prise. This EP comes as the child of collective artistry presenting us with new and fresh-sounding alternative punk vibes; and just like what you’d expect from an authentic alt-punk group, the DIY spirit is absolutely there too!
Traditional punk productions are usually self-produced and independently published or released. “The first day in the studio with Rex,” Izzy the Gent shares, “I showed up with a $99 Casio keyboard and played stock piano sounds. Rex didn’t bat an eye. He put the cheap keyboard through the vintage equipment and got it to vibe.” You got it right here peeps, the power of creativity! You work with what you have and get the best sound and vibe out of it.
The EP features two tracks, both with completely different vibes. “Hotshot” opens up with a super catchy and captivating guitar riff that sticks with you till the drum beat comes in. Praise then enters with a charming melodic vocal line showcasing her vocal uniqueness, there is a sense of melodious rage or grunge in her performance of this song, an interesting mix that highlights the depth and complexity of her vocals.
The second track, “Salt,” is a little bit of a contrast to the first in terms of tempo and emotional delivery. Praise delivers more aggressively while always maintaining her charming tone, and it perfectly complements the music which blends this punk rock rawness with her melodic lines. Pairing up both of these tracks in one EP was definitely a success, as it really shows an interesting range of emotions in delivery.
A&B Sides VOLL II is definitely an EP for anyone who is looking for authentic alt-punk vibes with a little bit of experimental spice. If that sounds like you, then wait no more and give that EP a good listen!
