“YOUR DREAM, YOUR HOME, WE DON’T CARE….WE’RE THE DISCO INVESTORS”. One of the biggest challenges music bands face is creating a particular genre or style just through sound elements without the need for a music video or special effects/additional instruments to get there. In their latest single, Leicester-based rockers 9 o’clock Nasty bring home some glam rock/shock rock vibes just by sounding and paying tribute to the part. The new “Disco Investors” is as dancy and upbeat as the name suggests.
The song begins with a nostalgic-sounding guitar with a bright tone. An upbeat and groovy bassline accompanied by a catchy drumline both guide the song into an 80s-90s glam rock-like aesthetic. The way the vocals are yelled during the verses creates a sense of rebellion and channels some of the band’s other work (in punk rock and heavier genres). On the other hand, the chorus has backing vocal harmonies that instill a sense of a large arena show in the good old glory days of Rock N Roll.
The brilliance of this song is not just in how every instrument complements the others, or how the lyrics are comical and sketchy, but in how every one of these elements is utilized to its best place. The transitions from one section to the other felt so smooth and well-placed that I didn’t think for a split-second that I’m listening to something different or that the mood had changed. For that catchy chorus, coherent songwriting, and overall glam-inspired vibe, I believe this song will garner a lot of success on the charts.
