The latest single from Gary Dranow is entitled “Destiny Road”, and it’s one of those songs that captures the exact same vibes as all your favorite 70s bands. From the first couple of notes, I could hear similarities to The Doors, The Who, Pink Floyd (Dark Side Of The Moon era), and every great Art Rock/Psychedelic Rock band out there. What I wasn’t expecting though were the groundbreaking vocals. What adds to their authenticity and emotional delivery is the mindblowing story behind the lyrics. Mr. Dranow sings about how destiny finds its way and how he had a premonition (of sorts) that came true. This song was written way back about a dream he had in 1966 where he was in emerald-colored hills and met a world traveler who became his lover. Turns out, this is the actual story of how Gary met his current wife, an actual world traveler and the love of his life. The emotional lyrics are delivered in an amazing and deep voice that’s almost entirely sung in chest voice (full voice), with clarity in the pronunciation, and with impeccable breath support. The keyboards have that nostalgic feeling that makes them so sweet to listeners no matter what your taste in rock is. The guitars reminded me of bands like UFO and Queen who used effects sparingly and only to highlight solos and important parts of the song. Last but not least, with drums that are simple yet impactful, and a bassline that ties all these wonders together, we have ourselves a 70s-influenced modern classic. This track is nothing short of a masterpiece that wouldn’t feel out of place if it were to be put in an oldies rock playlist, and I’m sure you will love every second of it.
