Behind Crispus Attucks and The Love Muskets are Matt Bescia and Will Beckenhaupt, the pair charging up a grunge-punk battery and letting it roar infectiousness. Bringing social consciousness and political observations to the core elements that make music punchy and riotous.
Their latest release, and third major project after full-length albums in 2021 and 2022, the band have unveiled a six-track EP ‘…and the War Came’. Characteristically unapologetic, the pain not only blends roaring guitar, heavy distortion and melancholic vocals but, in tracks like ‘Outrage, Inc.’, manages to lean on glittering synths without coming across uncommitted to the cause.
There are plenty of moments in the music where the instrumentation gets out of hand, ripping around the soundscape before resettling as a monumental force under frustrated, harsh vocals. ‘The Grand Narrative’ wraps up the project with a six-minute epic, showcasing all the compositional skills and atmospheric energy the band has to offer. Distorted trumpets, incessant percussion, and loosely obeying guitars wrap up the themes perfectly.
“Creating ‘…and the War Came’ was an intensive and rewarding journey that spanned over a year. We started crafting this song with a vision to encapsulate the political divisions of our time, aiming to convey both the challenges and the resilience we see around us. We believe this song has the potential to spark meaningful conversations and we’re committed to reaching as many listeners as possible”.
