Hectic, manic, and full to the brim with character and charm, Alternative Influence’s return to music is an extremely welcome one with the fun and aptly named ‘Come on in & Join the Party’.
Alternative Influence are a band/brand based in Manchester. Highly political, Alternative Influence are back with a foot-stomping indie rock anthem that’s full of jolly group chants, fiery guitars, charismatic drumming, and some endlessly infective vibes.
A song that marks a turning point in frontman Lee’s battle with stage-4 skin cancer. Currently in remission and left unable to play instruments, and with drugs for immunotherapy disrupting his sleep, his nocturnal nights turned into songwriting sessions that birthed classic-sounding rock anthems such as ‘Come on in & Join the Party’ with its litany of riffs and melodies. Most notable on ‘Come on in & Join the Party’ is the roomy and boxy mix that’s greatly reminiscent of some late 60s rock and roll greats. Also, we have Lee’s voice, which is loaded with such passion and power, despite being distinctively vulnerable. The drumming in the song is also fantastic. Lively, dynamic, and greatly engaging, and mixed so much in the forefront of the mix, it becomes a core part of the song’s coolness.
A terrific jam and a welcome return after a 19-year hiatus, Alternative Influence’s ‘Come on in & Join the Party’ is an infectious piece of rock and roll.
