I cannot find a better start to my list without mentioning this late well-known legendary American composer. Kamen has a huge list of works whether for film scores or in popular music as well. Some of his most successful Hollywood films music are: X-Men, all parts of Lethal Weapon, 2 parts of Die Hard, also his work with pop and rock acts, like; Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, The Cranberries, Coldplay, Sting and many others.
He’s been delivering the greatest music compositions and film scores since the 70s which will live forever! Over than a 100 film including the most commercially acclaimed success like; The Fugitive, ER, The Devil’s Advocate, The Sixth Sense, Batman Begins, King Kong, I Am Legend, The Dark Knight, and Pretty Woman. He is best known for his musical variety and diversity of styles. Newton has received a huge number of awards throughout his career from Grammys, Emmy, Academy and many other nominations.
3. Hans Zimmer
This multi-awarded and globally well-known German composer had participated in more than 150 film score since the early 80s till now. A huge amount to be listed here, but we will only mention the most remarkable work; The Lion King, Inception, Pirate of the Caribbean (series), Gladiator, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Interstellar, The Rock and many others. Zimmer owns Remote Control Productions which is a company specialized in film scoring since the late 80s.
4. John Williams
And that is a name that cannot be forgotten or mentioned in this list. Williams has been known for 6 decades for his signature films scores in the most successful Hollywood films like; Jaws, the Star Wars series, Superman, Indiana Jones series, Jurassic Park as well as the first three Harry Potter films among many others.
5. James Horner
The late music composer, conductor, and orchestrator is known by his works since the late 70s. The Lady in Red made a spot in his works and become one of the most wanted for the market. Horner has participated with the most selling and known Hollywood films, like; Star Trek, Aliens, Braveheart, Titanic, Bicentennial Man, The Mask of Zoro and the Legend of Zoro, Troy, Apocalypto, Avatar and the Amazing Spider-Man. Horner has received several global awards throughout his career, as well as being chosen as one of the top twenty-five American film scores. Horner passed away in a tragic air crash last year.
The Canadian composer has been mostly recognized by his masterpiece in Life of Pi in which he won both the Golden Globe and The Oscars for Best Original Score. Since the late 80s, Danna has been working in the most well-known productions like; 8mm, Camelot (Tv Series), Breach, Chloe, (500) Days of Summer, and much more.
7. John Ottman
He started film scoring in the mid-90s, however, he started to be more recognized since the mid-2000s and beyond. His remarkable works were more known in: Gothika, Fantastic Four, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Superman Returns, Valkyrie, Orphan, X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. He has other contributions in television, documentaries and acting.
8. Trevor Jones
The South African composer is well known for his works in Film, Television, and video games. Some of his most recognized works are; G.I. Jane, From Hell, Crossroads, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Around the World in 80 Days, I, Robot and Chaos.
9. Philip Glass
One of the most influential and honorable composers in the film scores industry of the late 20th century. Whether he called himself a “minimalist” or recently a “classicist” his compositions and works include written opera, musical theatre works, ten symphonies, eleven concertos, solo works, chamber music, film scoring as well as performing keyboards with his musical group, the Philip Glass Ensemble. 10. Marco Beltrami
The Master of Horror! Well, Beltrami is known by his contributions mainly within the horror film scene as well as action and Sci-Fi movies. Death Match, Scream (series), Resident Evil, Blade II, Hellboy, Dracula II: Ascension, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Hellboy, The Omen, Red Eye, Max Payne, World War Z, Gods of Egypt along with many others are some of his popular works.
There are music composers that cannot be forgotten as well as being considered from the best film scorers of all time, like; Nino Rota for the music of The Godfather Trilogy, Henry Mancini for The Pink Panther (film series), Alan Menken for The Beauty and The Beast.
